This was drawn during a meeting. The idea is having a group of koalas sorting out (or not) various problems. It would be a good tangent for Gone Bush to travel in from time to time.

Choosing Good Paper!
This is a good lesson in choosing good quality paper. Unfortunately the paper is too waxy and won't absorb the ink from the pens and colour shaders. So the dog and pig don't appear bright and colourful, just dirty and a little smudged. Not to worry. Back to the drawing board (so to speak).

Indonesian flash cards
These drawings are a lot of fun and fairly quick to do. The idea is to have four cards of each alphabet letter so as to play Memory, Go Fish, Snap! or any other type game to help remember Indonesian vocabulary.

Monok and Zeppelin
This drawing is some of my preliminary ideas for designing a male Monok and his environment. It is also an experiment with shape and design. The Monok's eye and the oval shape of the zeppelin together make two eyes facing the reader.

Chinese Numbers 1 to 8
I've always found that a good way to learn another language is to teach it. These are a sample of Chinese number cards. They can be used for memory and snap.

Simon the Nexian - Chapter 10
Lost in a dark tunnel, our hero discovers a magic candle who guides him out.
(Illustrators note: A mixture of retro and dark-deco influences. The dark-deco came from watching my children's Bat Man cartoons)

A study in ears
A study in ears. How do you draw a reverse view of ears? To answer questions like this you need to go to the masters and see what they do.

Gone Bush - 1 to 10
The "Gone Bush" series is some of my early work. The aim was to create an Australian style comic strip with a very country humour. The main characters include; Bob Wombat the farmer, Rex the sheep dog, Dr Echidna the dentist and a few "bushy" koalas. Enjoy!

Ika & Kuching - English edition
Here's some work from a little while ago. This was to be a comic strip titled "Ika & Kuching" (the English language version of Ikan & Kucing). In this I aimed to tell a little more of the origin of the unsusal friendship between the two main characters and how they came to live in "Big Pete's Fishing Supplies Shop".
Ikan & Kucing - At the restaurant
This is a 4 page comic featuring Ikan and Kucing (Fish and Cat). This was originally completed as a University assignment on discussions around a familiar topic. Our two heroes enter a Balinese restaurant and put in an order. The Cat gets bored and sets fire to his chair while 'clowning around' with a candle!

Using grey shaders
Experimenting with light and dark while using grey shaders. The top panel has a little Uderzo (Asterix & Obelix) influence in the technique for the tree and the silhouetted crowd of children listening to their alien teacher (wearing a stylish Balinese shirt).
The lower panel draws upon Polynesian and Chinese influences.

My niece and I were drawing together during the Christmas holidays. This is one of the things I came up with.
