Experiments With Colour

I drew this during a Principals Network meeting in Swan Hill earlier this year. (I was listening, it's just that I often need to draw to help me listen).

One of our speakers was from the Aboriginal Education unit, which got me thinking about traditional Indigenous art, hence the goanna above.  I added some earthy colours with felt tip texta.  As a rule, I find a limit of three or four colours is generally enough for this type of illustration.

Ikan & Kucing - Saya Sakit! (I'm Sick!)

Comics in Bahasa Indonesia

This comic strip is one I drew a few years ago on the Ikan & Kuching theme.  The topic for the strip is Saya Sakit! (I'm sick) and uses a lot of the vocabulary needed when describing sicknesses.
I was able to use this with a VCE Languages Indonesian class (Yr 11 &12) when I was on placement at a secondary college.  The students really enjoyed learning the language in comic strip format and could translate first and practice with each other second.
The punch line at the end is that the dog (Fred) has accidentally contacted a doctor rather than a vet.
The comic strips were drawn first, scanned and then dialogue was added via utilising the Comic Life program.

These two characters are Ikan and Kuching (from the Indonesian for fish and cat).

It's an unlikely friendship, formed in Big Pete's Marine Supplies store.

These two characters feature in the science fiction story I am currently working on, "Simon the Nexian."

The top character is Krug (a Crabby grub), while the second character is a guritong.  Guritongs can not speak, but a employed as scribes by other races in the story.
